Literally translated from Latin, Quintus means fifth. However, its relation to the word quintessence is where meaning is found for our brand. The word quintessence was first used to describe the substance, the pure essence, of which the heavenly bodies are composed. Along with the other four known elements (water, earth, fire and air), this essential purity was an integral component of all physical things. Simply put, quintessence means perfection.
Lewis Kramer and Bob Allred joined forces in February 2009 to form a company which would exemplify the pursuit of perfection. The guiding principle for that pursuit is succinctly put:

Lewis is a native Los Angelino and has spent the last 18 years managing the four companies he started in that time. However, his passion for art and design drew him to the world of home furnishings and allowed him to reconnect with his love of fine bench-made craftsmanship.
Many of you know Bob from his years at Kneedler|Fauchère where he managed the Southern California showrooms. When Kneedler|Fauchère acquired Gregorius|Pineo in 2005, he was made General Manager of the venerated company and was instrumental in helping restructure that business. In 2008, Michael Smith convinced Bob to take the reins of his Jasper lines of furniture, fabric, wallcovering, and leather and was instrumental in the meteoric growth of those lines.
